White House sets dance series, Jamison tribute
WASHINGTON (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama has announced that several of the world’s best-known dance companies will perform in the White House East Room next week for the Obama administration’s first event celebrating dance. Mrs. Obama said next Tuesday’s event will also pay tribute to Judith Jamison (JAY’-mih-sun) and her two-decade career as a dancer, choreographer and artistic director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Met opera adds 300 theaters to its HD broadcasts
NEW YORK (AP) — The Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD series is so popular at theaters worldwide that the New York company is expanding the telecasts to 1,500 theaters in 46 countries. That’s 300 more theaters than last year.
10 bailed-out banks spent $16.3M lobbying in 1H
NEW YORK (AP) — The 10 banks that received the most bailout aid during the financial crisis spent over $16 million on lobbying efforts in the first half of 2010, as the debate over financial regulatory reform reached its height. Amazon trying to offer subscription TV, movies
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Amazon.com Inc. is talking with major media companies about offering unlimited views of older TV shows and movies online, in an attempt to stay relevant as consumers flock to Apple Inc.’s iTunes a la carte store and Netflix Inc.’s all-you-can eat subscription plan.
