Cops Hunt Trio That Set Fires, Left Bones in Uniondale Cemetery


A group of teenagers are believed to have set a small fire in a Uniondale cemetery where Nassau County police are investigating the discovery of several bones on Saturday.

A witness who lives near Greenfield Cemetery on Nassau Road flagged down a Nassau County Public Safety Officer and reported having seen two boys and one girl, each approximately 14-years-old, setting a small fire in the cemetery on Thursday and Friday.

The officer checked the area discovered charred bushes and grass. Nearby, the officer found “multiple small bones,” police said in a statement. The bones, which were later determined not to be human, were not charred but medical examiners have not yet to be determined the origin of the bones.

Crime Scene detectives responded and are continuing the investigation. The 158-acre cemetery is run by the Town of Hempstead.
