The NFL lockout isn’t even over and there’s news about Brett Favre coming back to football.

Gil Brandt, the former executive and vice president of player personnel for the Dallas Cowboys commented on Favre playing in the NFL again during his live chat on NFL.com.

“I do think Farve would be interested in talking to a team about returning,” said Brandt, who is a contributor on Sirius NFL Radio. He added, “But I don’t see a team out there right now that would bring him back as a starter.”

But can Farve still play? He told the Sun Herald back in June, “I can still throw the ball as well as I ever have. No question about that.”

If Farve does come back to the NFL, it’s unclear what team would want to take in Favre, who struggled in 2010 and was involved in a personal scandal about a picture allegedly sent by him to former Jets reporter Jenn Sterger.

The news of a possible Favre return set off a storm on Twitter and other sites across the Internet.

AOL SportingNews referred to Brett Farve as “a piece of gum you’ve chewed too long and can’t find a place to spit out. Once you finally do– thank God! – you accidentally step in it and can’t get it off your shoe.”

On Twitter, users from across the country blasted the future Hall of Fame quarterback, even though he hasn’t actually said he was going to return to the NFL.
