OSU AD Gene Smith could make $1.2 million a year

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith could earn as much as $1.2 million annually – making him one of the highest-paid ADs in the country – after signing a contract addendum this summer. Now in his 27th year in athletic administration, and after five years at Ohio State, he said he never could have foreseen the day when an AD made a seven-figure paycheck. “Yeah, if I came back to my time when I started in this profession, I’m shocked at how fast it’s grown,” he said Thursday

Revis will miss Jets’ game at Bills

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Darrelle Revis will miss the New York Jets’ game at Buffalo on Sunday, sitting out a second straight game while he recovers from a strained left hamstring. Revis says Thursday he feels “a lot better” than he did at this time last week, but won’t play until he’s completely healthy.



Ed Devlin, pal of ‘Boardwalk’ boss, dies at 89

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — In the weeks before the premiere of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” series about Prohibition-era Atlantic City, Ed Devlin got to tell all his stories about palling around with the real-life star of the show, political and rackets boss Enoch “Nucky” Johnson. It would be the last time he did.



Utah rocket contractor ATK lays off more workers

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The company that makes rocket boosters for the soon-to-be-retired space shuttle said it laid off hundreds of employees Thursday because of uncertainty over the future of the U.S. space program. ATK Aerospace Systems dismissed 414 engineers, factory workers and other employees at three northern Utah locations, company spokesman George Torres told The Associated Press.



Police: Drunk man drives drunk woman to station

CLAWSON, Mich. (AP) — Police said a 40-year-old man faces drunk driving charges after he drove an intoxicated woman to the police station.
