A fatal motor vehicle accident early Sunday morning took the life of a 50-year-old man in West Hempstead.

Police say at around 5:05 a.m., a U.S. postal truck was traveling south in the left lane on Peninsula Boulevard when it struck Visitacion Gutierrez-Ramirez of Hempstead and his bike.

Gutierrez-Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the vehicle underwent and passed all safety inspections.
