Drug Rehab Proposed at William Floyd High School

William Floyd High School

William Floyd school officials are seeking New York State approval to allow an outpatient drug rehab clinic to operate inside a high school in Mastic Beach.

Officials say the costs would be covered by parents’ health insurance. If approved, it would be the only in-school treatment facility in state.

The program would have capacity for 60. It would be limited to students at William Floyd High School, which has an enrollment of 3,200. The Daytop agency would pay $18,000 in exchange for space in the school’s counseling area.

Officials say drug problems have been increasing. In the last two years, 38 students have been caught with drugs in school.
