Estonia enters new era with euro adoption
TALLINN, Estonia (AP) — The European Union hailed Estonia’s adoption of the euro in a few hours time as a symbolic boost for a currency that has just faced its worst crisis in its 12-year history. European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Friday that Estonia’s changeover from the kroon to the euro at midnight would boost the small Baltic nation’s economy and send a powerful message to all EU members.

GAUHATI, India (AP) — Tea growers in northeastern India say climate change has hurt the country’s tea crop, leading not just to a drop in production but also subtly altering the flavor of their brew. Tropical Assam state, with its high humidity and lush greenery, is India’s main tea growing region, producing nearly 55 percent of the country’s enormous tea crop.
3 dead after tornado hits NW Ark on New Year’s Eve
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A tornado fueled by an unusually warm winter air sliced through parts of northwestern Arkansas early on New Year’s Eve, killing three people, injuring several others and knocking out power to thousands of homes and businesses.
