Haley, currently the Brookhaven Town Building Commissioner, is running for the seat he held from 1996 through 2003 before he became a deputy county treasurer, then a deputy county clerk. He is also involved in several business organizations.

This is Anker’s first run for public office. She is involved in various environmental, health, education and civic organizations and currently serves as director of the Brookhaven Town Office of Energy and Sustainability.

Both candidates previously served on local boards of education.

Haley has campaigned on his experience in business and finance while Anker touts her credentials as an environmental advocate who offers a fresh perspective.

Voting locations are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visit the Suffolk County Board of Elections website to find polling places.

The Sixth Legislative District covers the North Shore of the Town of Brookhaven from Coram to Ridge.

The winner will be up for re-election again in November along with all 18 seats of the Suffolk County Legislature.
