Dodgers owner McCourt: ‘I have an uphill road’
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt kept silent as his divorce trial with former team CEO Jamie McCourt played out like a bad soap opera for all of baseball to see. Now, McCourt is going on offense after Major League Baseball sent a monitor to oversee the Dodgers’ operations and find out why one of baseball’s most-storied franchises is in disarray. Libyan village clinics become trauma centers
ZAWIYAT AL-MAHJOUB, Libya (AP) — The wail of an ambulance signaled the start of what one doctor at the small village clinic called the “gush.” The first of a flood of wounded were two Libyan rebel fighters whose legs had been mangled in a blast and one of the clinic’s own medics, who staggered in with a gunshot wound in the back that streaked red across his white coat. As rebels push Moammar Gadhafi’s forces back to the edges of the frontline city of Misrata, the fighting is turning rural medical centers in villages like this one into battlefield clinics. Their staff, more accustomed to distributing medicine and handling minor outpatient cases, are now performing trauma surgery

Santana’s slam lifts Indians past Tigers, 9-5
CLEVELAND (AP) — Carlos Santana hit a grand slam with one out in the ninth inning to give Cleveland a 9-5 win over the Detroit Tigers as the surging Indians extended their home winning streak to 11 games Friday night. It was the latest dramatic win for the Indians, who mobbed Santana at home plate after the switch-hitter drove a 3-1 pitch off Joaquin Benoit (0-1) over the right-field wall. Chris Perez (1-1) pitched one perfect inning for the win as Cleveland twice overcame three-run deficits to earn their fourth straight win overall and hand the Tigers their fourth consecutive loss
Deadline looms for `Two and a Half Men’ decision
LOS ANGELES (AP) — There are 2 1/2 weeks left for Warner Bros. Television and CBS to decide the fate of “Two and a Half Men.” With CBS unveiling its fall schedule for advertisers in New York on May 18, deadline pressure is on the network, Warner and “Men” executive producer Chuck Lorre to develop a post-Charlie Sheen version of the sitcom or kill what’s been a highly lucrative property for all. Whether the show is returning, who’s in the cast and whether a revamped format would be ready for a fall debut or be delayed until midseason will be resolved before the “upfront” sales presentation to Madison Avenue, according to an executive close to the situation.
