“This is a terribly tragic event,” Freeport School District Superintendent Dr. Kishore Kuncham said in a statement posted on the district website. “Our Crisis Intervention Team was immediately contacted and support services will be available to both students and staff, as needed. I know you join the Board of Education and the entire Freeport staff in extending our deepest sympathies to Camille’s family and friends during this very difficult time.”

Friends remembered Scott, a dancer and cheerleader, at school Friday with a memorial, where they hung posters with her picture and messages that read “rest in paradise,” “gone but not forgotten” and “we love you Camille.”

“She had a way of making others feel positive and always saw the good in others,” Kuncham said. “She was always pleasant and upbeat and knew at a young age how to embrace life to the fullest. Camille was a girl who had many special talents and will be remembered forever for her love of school, family and life.”

The cause of death is unknown at this time and authorities are awaiting autopsy results. According to numerous reports Scott had gone home early on Wednesday because she wasn’t feeling well.
