Brock Lesnar retires after 1st-rd loss to Overeem
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Brock Lesnar retired from mixed martial arts after Alistair Overeem stopped him with one vicious kick to the body at 2:26 of the first round in their heavyweight bout at UFC 141 on Friday night. Lesnar is the UFC’s biggest pay-per-view star and the former heavyweight champion, but his return from a 14-month injury absence ended with Lesnar staggering and crumpling against the cage.

Wade, James hold off Timberwolves
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Dwyane Wade wasn’t about to let the Minnesota Timberwolves spoil LeBron James’ birthday. Wade hit a jumper from the wing, then scored on an inbounds pass from James with 4.6 seconds to play to lift the undefeated Heat to a 103-101 victory over the Wolves on Friday night.
O’Neal leads Celts to 1st win, 96-85 over Pistons
BOSTON (AP) — Jermaine O’Neal scored 19 points as he and the Boston Celtics ended a dismal start to their season with a 96-85 victory in their home opener over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night. O’Neal, who played passively in totaling just eight points in the first three games, all losses, was aggressive throughout. He had 10 points in the first half, which ended with Boston on top 50-43
Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta dies at 80
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta has died at the age of 80. Legorreta’s best-known work is Mexico City’s Camino Real hotel, which was built in 1968. He also oversaw the remodeling of Los Angeles’ Pershing Square in 1993
