A Mastic Beach man, who had fallen of his boat and into the waters off the Great South Bay, was rescued Monday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.
Police said they received a 911 call from someone who reported a man in distress in the waters off the Great South Bay near Blue Point beach around 2:45 p.m. on Monday. When the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau responded they found Thomas Herrshaff, 57, hanging onto his 24-foot clam boat and pulled him out of the water.
Herrshaff was suffering from early stages of hypothermia, police said, and he was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment.
