Funeral Held for Commack Student Killed in Fire


A Commack college student who was one of three people who died in an off-campus house fire in the Hudson Valley has been laid to rest.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that Kerry Fitzsimons’ funeral was held Friday in Dix Hills. Services for Kevin Johnson were held the same day in his hometown of New Canaan, Conn.

The two victims and a third student died on Jan. 21 in an early morning fire at a Poughkeepsie home rented by six Marist College students.

Services for victim Eva Block, of Woodbridge, Conn., were held Monday. All three victims were 21.

The school plans to set up scholarships in their memory. Fitzsimons and Block were seniors at Marist. Johnson attended Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
