A woman was arrested for texting while drunken driving after she crashed her car Bethpage State Parkway in Plainedge this week, New York State police said.

Laura McMorrough was driving her Toyota Camary southbound when she drove off the parkway and crashed into the woods at 2:40 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Troopers said the 30-year-old Hicksville woman smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and failed sobriety tests.

McMorrough reportedly told Troopers she was reading a text message on her cell phone when she lost control and drove onto the parkway shoulder, police said.

She was charged with driving while intoxicated and traffic violations. She is due at First District Court in Hempstead on Feb. 27.
