A pair of robbers beat, pepper-sprayed and tied up a Hempstead store clerk during a robbery over the weekend, Nassau County police said.

The suspects asked a 35-year-old man working at El Rey Miscellaneous on North Franklin Street to assist them in the rear of the store when they pepper-sprayed, kicked and punched the victim before they bound him with duct tape at 11:30 a.m. Friday, police said.

The robbers stole cash from the register and fled on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
