Suspect Nabbed for St. James Shop Robbery Try

Suffolk County police arrested a man who allegedly tried to rob a stationery store in St. James on Thursday afternoon.

Joseph Hogan tried to steal money from the register of the store on Lake Avenue but a struggle ensued when the owner attempted to stop him at 1:15 p.m., police said.

The 33-year-old Holbrook man fled when the owner brought out a tire iron.

Officers took Hogan into custody at the scene after witnesses pointed out the suspect, who matched the description provided by the victim.

Hogan was charged with attempted robbery and menacing. He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
