After stabbing himself, a Hackensack New Jersey man reportedly threw his intestines at police when they attempted to help him.

The man is now in critical condition after he continually stabbed himself in various parts of his body with a 12-inch knife.

He’s been identified as 43-year-old Wayne Carter, who reportedly has a history of psychiatric problems. Carter locked himself inside of his home on late Sunday and then began to wound himself.

After he was seen hurting himself, police were called to his home.

That’s when the story turned from bad to grotesque. As officers arrived, Carter allegedly began waving the 12-inch knife and a hammer at the officers. Then he started stabbing himself in the neck, stomach and legs.

“They tried to talk him down, but they were having no luck. He was slashing at them with the knife, ” Hackensack Police Lt. Timothy Lloyd told the Cliffview Pilot.

The story took a horrifying turn when the man began to rip out his intestines and parts of his skin so he could throw them at the police officers.

Authorities decided to call Bergen County Police Department’s SWAT team, Lloyd said.

An unnamed official from the police department told the Pilot that by the time the Bergen County Police Department’s SWAT team got to Carter’s house, his insides were “literally” coming out of his body.

“The scene was a bloody mess,” the official said. “The SWAT team members had to be decontaminated due to the amount of blood.”

The SWAT team was finally able to help Carter when they spayed two cans of pepper spray on him. Carter was disarmed and immediately rushed to the hospital, where he went into surgery Monday night.
