A school bus driver was charged with aggravated drunken driving after he crashed a bus Friday in Farmingdale with four children on board, Nassau County police said.

Michael Asseng, the 47-year-old driver for ACME Bus Corporation, was driving the four kids—ages 6, 8, 8 and 12—home from school when he allegedly struck a parked vehicle on Midwood Avenue just before noon.

Responding officers determined that Asseng, of Deer Park, was allegedly impaired by drugs and was placed under arrest, police said. He was taken to a local hospital shortly after his arrest because of difficulty breathing, police said.

The four children were not injured in the crash.

Asseng is charged with four counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated, which falls under Leandra’s Law and driving while ability impaired, drugs.

An arraignment date hasn’t been announced.
