An 83-year-old Coram man was killed when the car he was riding in crashed on the Long Island Expressway in Melville on Monday evening.
Suffolk County police said 57-year-old Rafael Ortiz, also of Coram, was driving a Toyota Camry westbound when the car veered off the roadway and hit a pole east of Exit 50 at 7:25 p.m.
Ortiz’s passenger and stepfather, Dominic Bottiglieri, was killed in the crash.
Ortiz was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
