A hit-and-run driver killed a 20-year-old man following a crash in the victim’s hometown of East Northport early Thursday morning, Suffolk County police said.
Alexander Zydel was driving a Ford Explorer westbound on Soundview Avenue when his SUV struck a tree, ejecting him into the roadway, where he was run over by a driver the fled the scene shortly before 1 a.m., police said.
Zydel was taken to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The hit-and-run driver’s vehicle was described as a westbound light-colored sedan that fled in the same direction on Soundview Avenue.
Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information about the crash or who may have been driving on Soundview Avenue at the time of the crash to contact them at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
