Central Islip Shooting Leaves Man Dead

A 31-year-old man was shot and killed when a fight broke out during a Memorial Day Weekend party in the victim’s hometown of Central Islip, Suffolk County police said.

Uninvited guests were asked to leave a home on Rosewood Street, when an ensuing fight in the street in front of the house escalated and at least one gunshot was fired shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, police said.

Nathaniel Winfield was struck by the gunfire was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, he was pronounced dead.

A second victim, 16-year-old Joseph Jackson of Wyandanch, was injured during the fight hospitalized for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, although it is unclear how he was hurt, police said.
