Baldwin Man Charged With Fatal DWI Hit-and-run

A Baldwin man has been accused of driving drunk in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 49-year-old man in Port Washington over the weekend.

Nassau County police said Cosmin Florea, 34, of Baldwin, was driving a Ford Fusion in Port Washington when he hit  Donald Mooney, of Lynbrook, shortly before noon Friday.

The victim was taken to North Shore University Hospital, where he later died.

Florea fled the scene but was stopped by New York City Police officers stopped in Queens, where Port Washington police officers responded and took him into custody.

Homicide Squad detectives impounded the vehicle and charged Florea with vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatality and driving while intoxicated.

He will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
