Baiting Hollow Crash Leaves Driver Dead

A 46-year-old Mastic Beach man was killed when he crashed his vehicle head-on into another in Baiting Hollow one day before Thanksgiving.

Riverhead Town Police said Christopher Savage was driving his Lincoln westbound on Sound Avenue, when he was lost control and collided with an eastbound Toyota shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Savage was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, 28-year-old Caitlin Minton of Manorville, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Savage’s body was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine his cause of death.

New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit investigators responded to assist in the probe, which is continuing.
