Kings Park Woman Charged With Fatal DWI Crash

A Kings Park woman was arrested for allegedly driving drunk and causing a head-on crash that killed a 59-year-old Island Park man in Smithtown early Friday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Natalia Simons, 36, was driving a Nissan Rogue northbound on Route 25A when her vehicle crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a southbound Toyota Camry at 12:05 a.m.

The other driver, Larry Garwood, was taken to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, where he was pronounced dead. Simons was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she is being treated for her injuries.

Simons was charged with driving while intoxicated. She will be arraigned at a later date.

Vehicular Crime Unit detectives impounded the vehicles, are continuing the investigation and ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them at 631-852-6555 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
