Long Island Press is an award-winning, independent, online, local and national news organization dedicated to smart, fearless investigative journalism, in-depth feature, arts and entertainment writing, and insightful long-form, character-driven narratives that seek to inform, entertain, enlighten, inspire, and spark change in the best interests of the public good.
A daily newspaper published for 156 years ending in 1977, the Long Island Press was resurrected in 2003 by The Morey Organization (now Morey Publishing) and re-launched as a free, alternative weekly newspaper staffed with a varied blend of seasoned journalism veterans and bloodthirsty rookie reporters. In 2013 Long Island Press went monthly, and the following year moved to an online format.
Long Island Press has earned nearly 500 local, regional and national journalism awards and accolades since its rebirth, including recognition from: the New York Press Association (NYPA); Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN); Fair Media Council; Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Press Club of Long Island (PCLI); Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE); Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism; CUNY Graduate School of Journalism; Journalism Center on Children & Families, Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland; and Mollie Parnis Livingston Foundation, among others. The paper twice clinched the New York Press Association’s top prize, the prestigious Stuart C. Dorman Award for Editorial Excellence, in 2010 and 2013.
Long Island Press is owned by Morey Publishing, a full-service website design and digital marketing company based in Syosset, NY, with clients including Competition BMW, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Hofstra University, American Organic Energy, Pieper Bar Review, A-1 First Class Moving & Storage, MerchantPro Express, Mayava Capital and Alure Home Improvements, among others.
