In response to dropping temperatures, Nassau County officials announced the early opening of the Warm Bed Hotline.
The hotline, which provides shelter relief for families and individuals without homes during the winter season, was scheduled to open Dec. 15, but as a result of the sudden cold, it was opened on Nov. 19. Running under joint operation of the Department of Social Services and the Office of Housing and Homeless Services, the “Warm Line” operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to direct callers to appropriate services and shelter placements.
“There is no reason for anyone to spend nights stuck outside in the freezing cold, when they can call... and find a warm place to stay,” said Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi. The hotline, 1-866-WARM-BED, is to be open until March 31, but will be extended should these winter conditions persist.
