
Near the movie theater in Long Beach comes this franchise from Colombian-born Raul Silva’s Morristown, N.J. original empanada parlor. Open since January, they boast 70 different varieties of these flaky turnovers—a cross between fried dumplings and meat pies—all cooked with no trans fats. Try the basics like beef or chicken, or the offbeat like Hawaiian (ham, cheese, pineapple).

The space that Wok N Roll inhabits has a long history of interesting Asian restaurants. Recently and quite briefly it held Zong’s Shanghai, offering soup dumplings and other delights. More than 15 years ago it housed the only Vietnamese eatery on Long Island at the time, but that fell by the wayside as well.

Kelly Ripa has teamed up with Buddy Valastro, the Tony Soprano of confectioners and star of TLC’s Cake Boss, in Kelly’s Cake Off for A Cause, which will raise money and awareness for The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF).
