‘Amazing Spider-Man’ footage teased for fans
LOS ANGELES (AP) — “The Amazing Spider-Man” dropped in on hundreds of fans Monday. Sony Pictures teased the latest incarnation of the web-slinging superhero adventure, which doesn’t hit U.S. theaters until July 3, at preview events held at movie theaters in 13 cities around the world, with the cast and filmmakers appearing in Los Angeles, New York, Rio de Janeiro and London.
Key states move closer to foreclosure-abuse deal
WASHINGTON (AP) — California and New York, the key holdouts in a long-awaited settlement over foreclosure abuses, moved closer Monday to backing a deal that would force the five largest mortgage lenders to reduce loans for about 1 million households. But those states, along with a handful of others, had not joined the settlement by a Monday deadline set by the nation’s state attorneys general.
Constar’s 4Q earnings soar as Redbox thrives
BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) — Coinstar’s fourth-quarter earnings nearly tripled as its Redbox kiosks for renting DVDs picked up customers who stopped getting their discs through Netflix’s rival service. The performance announced Monday was far better than analysts projected, driving up Coinstar’s stock by more than 13 percent in extended trading.
Brazil privatizes 3 major airports
l latl SAO PAULO (AP) — The Brazilian government privatized operations at three of the nation’s main airports on Monday, awarding $14 billion in contracts to three consortiums that will expand and run terminals amid booming demand and ahead of the 2014 World Cup. Improving airports plagued with bottlenecks, long lines and poor infrastructure was a key promise the government made in its winning bid to host soccer’s premiere event in 2014. Hundreds of thousands of fans will fly between the 12 host cities for matches.
