The Cradle of Aviation was one of seven museums nationwide chosen for this partnership.

Busloads of schoolchildren streamed into the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City to see the film “Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure,” a first thanks to a partnership with National Geographic Society.

The Cradle of Aviation was one of seven museums nationwide chosen for this partnership, which allows the participating museums access to National Geographic films, exhibits and speakers.

“It’s an exciting day in Nassau County as we announce a new and unique partnership with National Geographic Society and the Cradle of Aviation Museum,” Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano told reporters at a news conference inside the museum’s IMAX dome theater.

“Sea Monsters” is about marine dinosaurs during the late Cretaceous period, which was 81.9 million years ago.

“How many of you like dinosaurs?” Andrew Parton, the museum’s Executive Director, asked the children from Westbury, Copiague, Elmont and Uniondale, who cheered with approval.

“We launched this program because the future is about partnerships and relationships, and we’re just so excited to be part of a new relationship here on Long Island,” said Mark Katz, president of distribution for National Geographic Cinema Ventures.

Federal, state and local law enforcement will be on hand to secure the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.

Frank Kirby, Nassau County police Chief of Patrol, speaks to reporters in Garden City on Thursday, June 6, 2013.

Security will be on high alert for the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes in Elmont this weekend, even more so than usual after the Boston Marathon bombings, law enforcement officials warn.

Plainclothes emergency personnel will join forces with uniform officers patrolling the parking lot, backyard and building/apron area. There will also be security personnel watching the vicinity from a sky tower, helicopters and digital cameras. That’s in addition to a list of items fans are banned from bringing to the racetrack.

“If you see something, say something,” Frank Kirby, Nassau County police Chief of Patrol, told reporters Thursday at a news conference at the Garden City Hotel. “Everyone has to be a watchful eye.”

Suffolk County, New York City and MTA police officers will be on hand along with the racetrack’s private security, New York State troopers and the FBI, officials said. They will be strictly enforcing a list of items banned from the racetrack, inspecting bags and patrolling with K-9 units as well as radiation detectors.

The list of newly banned items includes air horns, bags larger than 12-inches wide, coolers and umbrellas. All food must be in a clear plastic container or see-through bags. One container per adult is permitted in the backyard area and two in the building/apron area.

These safety precautions are being implemented in order to maintain a fun, family friendly atmosphere, authorities said. The first race starts at 11:35 a.m. in the run-up to the main event at 6:36 p.m.

For more information and a full list of regulations, visit www.belmontstakes.com.

Three gas station workers are accused of swindling a construction worker out of his Take Five lottery winnings.

Three Riverhead men have been accused of conning a Take Five lottery winner out of his $74,000 winnings two months ago.

Yalcin Nergiz, 41, Yunis Ozturk, 33, and his 47-year-old brother, Orhan, will be arraigned Wednesday at Suffolk County court on a grand jury indictment charging them with conspiracy and grand larceny.

Prosecutors said the trio was working at the Valero Gas Station on Peconic Avenue in Riverside when they deceived the winner by paying him $774 of the $74,892 payoff when he redeemed the ticket on March 18.

They allegedly cashed the winning ticket at the Lottery’s Garden City customer service center and the divvied up the proceeds—$48.318.27 after taxes—between them.

The victim is 28-year-old Marvin Choy Nij, a Guatemalan construction worker who told police he cannot speak or write English, authorities said.

The suspects are being held at Suffolk County jail without bail.

They were arrested following a joint investigation with the district attorney’s Economic Crimes Bureau, Southampton Town Police and the New York State Lotto Commission.

The 23-year-old man was linked to images he was sharing on the Internet, authorities said.

A 23-year-old Boy Scout leader from Garden City has admitted making child pornography on his home computer and sharing it on the Internet last year.

Edward Orenchuk III pleaded guilty Thursday at Nassau County court to promoting a sexual performance by a child as a sexually motivated felony.

Prosecutors said investigators observed Orenchuk making multiple images of child porn available online for download by other people, then tracked the source of those images to Orenchuk’s Wheeler Avenue home in August and September.

Orenchuk indicated that he had hundreds of images on his personal computer while investigators were executing a search warrant at this home in December. The images contain children as young as 5 years old.

He had worked as a page at the Garden City Public Library and served as an Assistant Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop No. 243 at the time.

Judge Angelo Delligatti is expected to sentence him June 6 to six months in jail and 10 years of probation with sex offender restrictions. Orenchuk must also register as a sex offender.

Craig Williams was indicted last month on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, a felony. Judge Stephen Braslow set his bail at $25,000.

Newsday reported that prosecutors appointed Garden City-based attorney Stephen Scaring as a special prosecutor in the case because Williams’ father is an investigator with the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
