Nancy Boland

A North Bellmore woman was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison for stabbing her ex-husband to death during an argument and dumping his body on the side of a road.

Nancy Boland had pleaded guilty at Nassau County court in January to first-degree manslaughter, criminal contempt, tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors said the 57-year-old woman and her ex-husband, Walter—who had an order of protection against her—got into a fight at their Waltoffer Avenue home when she said he threatened her with a blade on Nov. 16, 2011.

Nancy said that she grabbed the weapon out Walter’s hand and stabbed him with it once in the abdomen, but he refused go to the hospital, so she left him home alone and went to work the next day.

When she returned home, she found Walter dead, waited until after dark to then drag his body to her mother’s car and then dumped his body on the Wantagh State Parkway bike path north of Sunrise Highway.

A jogger found the victim’s body the following day. Nancy had told family, friends, and co-workers that her husband had stormed off after an argument and hadn’t returned.

Nancy also pleaded guilty at Suffolk County court last month to assaulting her 84-year-old mother with a cane and is expected to be sentenced next week.

The driver, a dean at Suffolk County Community College, was charged with vehicular manslaughter.

A Suffolk County Community College dean is facing upgraded charges of criminally negligent homicide and drugged-driving allegations stemming from a crash that claimed two lives on the Meadowbrook State Parkway.

New York State Police said Robert Beodeker surrendered to investigators Friday before he pleaded not guilty to the new charges, which also include vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired.

Tests showed the 50-year-old Aquebogue man had methamphetamine and amphetamine in his blood at the time of the March 4 crash that killed two men fixing their broken-down vehicle on the side of the parkway, police said. He reportedly had been taking the prescription sleep aid Ambien.

The victims, 76-year-old John Elder of Freeport and 65-year-old Edward Ross of North Bellmore, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Beodeker, an associate dean of student services at SCCC who’s been suspended, was also driving with a suspended license at the time, police have said. He was initially charged with reckless driving and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

His bail was set at $1 million and he faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Police pulled the woman over for traffic violations when they found boxes of marijuana.

A Bellport woman was arrested after Nassau County police said they found 92 pounds of marijuana in her vehicle after stopping her for traffic violations on Saturday evening.

Officers spotted Mizzie Artis driving a Hyundai in North Bellmore while talking on a cell phone and not wearing a seatbelt but she fled when she noticed the officers saw her meet a man in a minivan on Armand Street at 6 p.m., police said.

The man fled and the officers stopped the 27-year-old woman after she drove away but failed to stop at a stop sign, police said.

The officers smelled marijuana and found two large cardboard boxes in the vehicle. K-9 officers responded and had a positive alert for narcotics in one box, police said. Two additional boxes of marijuana were found in the trunk.

Artis was charged with criminal possession of marijuana and several traffic violations. She will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Nancy Boland

A North Bellmore woman has admitted to stabbing her ex-husband to death and dumping his body on the side of a road following an argument in 2011.

Nancy Boland pleaded guilty Tuesday at Nassau County court to first-degree manslaughter, criminal contempt, tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon

Prosecutors said the 57-year-old woman and her ex-husband, Walter Boland, with whom she still lived on Waltoffer Avenue, got into an argument on Nov. 16, 2011. The fight escalated when she claimed that he threatened her with a sharp-bladed instrument.

“Nancy Boland said that she grabbed it out his hand and stabbed him with it once in the abdomen, driving it upward and four inches deep,” the district attorney’s office said in a news release.

The victim, who had a valid order of protection against his ex-wife, refused to be taken to the hospital, according to Nancy Boland’s statement to police.

She left him at home to go to work the following day but when she returned home, she found her ex-husband unresponsive. Once she concluded that he was dead, she dragged his body to her mother’s car and dumped his body on the Wantagh State Parkway bike path north of Sunrise Highway.

Nancy Boland had told family, friends and co-workers that he had left after the fight and hadn’t returned. A jogger found the body the morning of Nov. 18, 2011.

Nancy Boland is expected to be sentenced March 13 to seven years in prison.
