The POB Memorial Day Committee has been busy meeting since February planning all the details to ensure a great Parade this year. Every year the parade salutes the men and women from our Armed Forces for their service to this county past and present. This year the Grand Marshal of the Memorial Day Parade will be Edward Coyne, an honored WWII hero. In 1943 Ed served as a U.S. Naval Seaman on the USS Aircraft Carrier Intrepid. He is one of the original “plank owners” of the USS Intrepid and was honored with 5 Battle Citations.
The parade kicks off on Monday, May 25, at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of 700 Old Country Road and makes its way down to the Plainview Pool on Washington Avenue for a Commemoration Ceremony. Carol Siva from Channel 12 News is this years honored guest and will join the Military vehicles, local politicians, the POB High School Marching Band, vintage antiques vehicles, Boy and Girl Scouts, PAL, Double GG Productions, Trio Hardware, 4 Elementary schools, POB Senior Citizen Club, Friends of the Library, St. Pius Senior Club, the men and women from the POB Volunteer Fire Dept. and scores of other local stores, and clubs.
Everyone is welcome to march or come down and watch.
