Only Undefeated Softball Team in Nassau County
The 2009 Varsity Lady Dalers continued its quest for an undefeated season as they played seven games this past week and won them all. The Lady Dalers, under the direction of Coaches Laura Malone and Brandon Oppenheim, are Conference Champions of AA –III. They are the only undefeated team out of 57 programs in Section VIII. The Lady Dalers finished with an 18-0 record overall. Pitchers Stephanie Ringbauer had eight shut outs and Nicola DeVine added one during the season. The offense produced 211 runs and defense gave up only 29. Playoffs begin on May 21, they are ranked 12th.
Highlights of the week included the two must wins against their rivals, Herricks for the conference title. Ringbauer pitched another no hitter leading the team to a 16-0 win with Kelly Ann Keenan behind the plate. It was Stephanie’s seventh shut out of the season and her second no hitter. She also blasted a triple and single during the contest. Kat Zabielski nailed a triple, double, and a single for three RBI’s. Kelly Ann Keenan continued to be clutch in the number four spot. Samantha Vitale was three for four with an RBI and three runs scored. In the second game against Herricks, Ringbauer led the Dalers to a 9-1 win. Arielle Hornedo went five for five with two RBIs. Kat Zabielski was just shy of the cycle again. She belted a triple, double, and single for three RBIs. Julie Teller had two singles.
On Senior Day, the Lady Dalers played a double header. In the match up against Calhoun, Stephanie Ringbauer along with Kelly Ann Keenan pitched her eighth shut out of the season with six strikeouts. The offensive game started with Emily Dorso’s single and then Kelly Ann Keenan doubled to drive her in for a 1-0 score after one. In the next inning, Stephanie Ringbauer doubled and Melissa Gehlbach followed with a single to drive her in. Samantha Vitale singled in Gehlbach. Kat Zabielski doubled, advanced to third and then Kellie Murphy’s sacrifice fly scored Kat. The Dalers took a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Arielle Hornedo singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Emily Dorso. Kelly Ann Keenan then drove her in with another single. Kristie Summus and Stephanie Ringbauer were on base when Melissa Gehlbach produced another RBI single for a 6-0 lead after four innings. Kat Zabielski’s home run brought the score to 7-0. Kelly Ann Keenan walked and Kellie Murphy doubled. With runners in scoring position, Kristie Summus doubled down the third base line for two RBI’s. Stephanie Ringbauer followed with a single scoring Summus. Amanda Lubliner walked moving Ringbauer over, with runners advancing to second and third, Samantha Vitale placed a perfect bunt producing the last two runs for a 12-0 win in six innings.
The Lady Daler’s finished off the double header with a win against Port Washington 15-3. Nicola DeVine was on the mound and Julie Teller behind the plate. Nicola had five strikeouts during this win and produced two RBI’s. Arielle Hornedo was two for three with four RBIs and Melissa Gehlbach followed with two hits with two RBIs. Kellie Murphy blasted a triple and Julie Teller was two for three with a double and single for two RBIs.
