Plainview Water Commissioners Honor Winners of Annual Poster Contest
Plainview Water Commissioners Kevin Langberg, Joel Kessler and Edward Shulroff honored the winners of the Plainview Water District’s 2009 Water Conservation Poster Contest during an awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 23.
“The annual poster contest has long been one of our favorite community activities,” said Board of Commissioners Chairman Kevin Langberg. “It seems that the entries get better and better every year, and this year was certainly no exception.”
Plainview-Old Bethpage students in grades one through six took part in this springtime tradition, creating their own original poster artwork on the topic of water conservation and how it relates to a healthy environment. The Commissioners voted on the top three entries from each grade level. First-place winners received a $100 U.S. savings bond; $50 bonds were awarded to second and third-place winners.
“It was very difficult to select these winners out of so many outstanding entries,” said Commissioner Kessler. “This is obviously a very talented group of kids who truly understand the importance of conserving water and protecting the environment.”
The 15 winning posters will be on public display in the main lobby of the Plainview Water District at 10 Manetto Hill Road. The Board of Commissioners encourages all residents to come visit and take a look.
“My fellow commissioners and I were thrilled to see such great artwork, and we thank all of the artists for doing their part to spread our message to the community,” Commissioner Shulroff added.
