Congratulations to Farmingdale High School’s Varsity Golf Team. They went undefeated during their 2008/’09 season. With a 14-0 record, the team went on to win the Conference. With two seventh-graders, one sophomore, and three juniors, the Farmingdale golf team won its first county title in the program’s history. With help from Brandon Romano, shooting a 73, the lowest in the Nassau County Tournament for day 2, the team came in first place over Garden City and Port Washington by four strokes at the Eisenhower Park White Course.
The team went on to another first in Farmingdale’s golf program by beating Kings Park on the Eisenhower Red Course for the LI championship. Thanks to James Darcy, after being down by eight strokes, ending in a tie, and Brandon Romano winning his match by one; Farmingdale won by only 3 strokes.
With scoring averages below 40 for their 9-hole league matches, Matt Lowe, Brandon Romano and Kurt Brey became All County winners and went on to the NY State Tournament at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell in Ithaca. Shooting 78-80 at the State Tournament, Brandon Romano came in first place for Section VIII, third place for Long Island, and tied for 27th for NY State. Congratulations again to the Farmingdale High School golf team for a great season and to Coach John Berardi for being honored as Coach of the Year.
