Reach for the Stars Teen Talent Finals
Nassau County’s teen talent contest, Reach for the Stars, will hold its finals at Eisenhower Park’s Lakeside Theatre. Radio Disney personalities will host the show, which will begin at 7:15 p.m. Admission is free. Twenty-five Nassau County teenagers were chosen as finalists from an audition pool of 68 contestants. A panel of judges, including former Reach for the Stars winner and American Idol finalist, Kevin Covais, and professionals in the music and entertainment industry, will have the job of choosing the winners from a very talented group of young vocalists. Free Mammograms/Cervical Exams
To uninsured women over the age of 40 provided by the Cancer Screening Partnership at Nassau University Medical Center. Free take-home test for colorectal cancer for women 50 and over and their partners will be distributed. These services are offered in conjunction with NUMC, North Shore/LIJ Health System, Planned Parenthood, South Nassau Communities Hospital and others, starting at 8:30 a.m. at NUMC, 2201 Hempstead Tpke., East Meadow. Member of the Freeport High School Class of 1959 have planned a gala weekend to celebrate their 50-year reunion from Sept. 11 to 13. Begins Friday night with a meeting at E.B. Saturday will find the group at Jones Beach Field 6 or at Museum Row riding Nunley’s Carousel once more, in the bleachers at the Freeport vs. Oceanside football game or just riding around the village visiting old haunts. •Pet Loss Support Group. People who feel very sad about the loss or serious illness of their cat or dog can now come to a bi-weekly support group led by an experienced counselor in the conference room at Bide-A-Wee, 3300 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh. These sessions are open to the public; they are not restricted to Bide-A-Wee clients or adopters. The group facilitator is Medea Berkman, a pet loss group leader with many years of experience. She gently guides the healing process to help people come to terms with their feelings of sadness and loss.
