Acupuncture for Weight Loss: How it Works

The old paradigm for weight loss is insufficient for most of us. We deprive ourselves for a while then find out that we soon go back to old habits and gain the weight back. In this enlightening lecture, Marie Regis discusses how acupuncture can help correct the real health issues which need to be addressed in order to lose weight and keep it off. Her lecture will include a discussion of lifestyle factors as they affect our health as we age. Marie Regis LAc, M.S., is a licensed acupuncturist and the founder and director of the Acupuncture and Wellness Center in Great Neck. WLICM Radio Theater at Long Island Children’s Museum

Join the fun at 1:30 p.m. in the LICM Theater and learn how old-time radio shows were created. Using stories we all know and love, kids will help create a live broadcast as they add sound effects, character voices, old-time radio ads and live audience sounds. Each performance is unique, featuring such folk tales as “The Great Chief’s Drum, ” “The Three Little Pigs, ” or “The King with Dirty Feet”. Adults and kids alike will enjoy the fun of creating a unique onetime only broadcast at LICM. Ages: 3 and up. Fee: $4 with museum admission ($3 LICM Members), $8 for Theater only. All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Randy & The Rainbows at Clinton G. Martin Park
Randy and the Rainbows will be held at Clinton G. Martin Park at 7:30 p.m. Randy and the Rainbows have been rocking the stage since 1964. New Hyde Park Cellini Lodge No. 2206 will hold its Annual Italian Festival on the grounds of Michael J. Tully Park, off Denton Avenue on Evergreen Avenue, New Hyde Park. Shelter Rock Library Annual Budget Hearing and Meeting

The Shelter Rock Library will hold its Annual Budget Hearing and monthly meeting at 8 p.m. at the library’s program room, 165 Searingtown Road, Albertson. The meeting may contain an executive session for discussion of personnel issue. The public is invited to attend.

The Church of Holy Spirit, 500 Jericho Turnpike, will offer a Defensive Driving Course. The cost is $45 and participants will receive a 10 percent reduction in the liability and collisions portions of their insurance premium. Saint Aidan to Collect School Supplies

The Church of Saint Aidan will be collecting school supplies on Aug. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the front of the church or donations can be brought directly to the Parish Social Ministry Office the week before or after. The items particularly needed are backpacks, calculators, one-, three- and five-subject spiral Five Star notebooks, marble notebooks, plain and decorated folders, pencils, flexible three-ring binders, pens, colored markers, crayons, colored pencils, scissors, construction paper, and all other miscellaneous items. Donated items will be distributed to children here in our local schools. John’s Variety located at 81 Hillside Avenue is kindly offering a 10 percent discount to those purchasing items for the School Supply Drive. New Hyde Park Funeral Home to Hold VJ Day Ceremony

The New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, will hold a VJ Day ceremony at noon. The agenda will include a welcome, posting of the colors, short prayer, introduction of guests, reading of 37 New Hyde Park men who died in WWII, presentation of wreath, 21 -gun salute, folding of flag, Taps, National Anthem. The New Hyde Park Gladiator Fund will hold the 15th Annual William F. Kelly Memorial Golf Classic to benefit James J.T. Meredith, son of James and Karen Meredith, New Hyde Park Memorial Class of ’81, diagnosed with traumatic brain injury.
