Softball Game in Memory of Richard Greene

Proceeds to Benefit American Cancer Society

On July 8, Hicksville resident Richard Greene passed away in a house fire. Faced with this tragedy, his softball team, the Underdogs, has decided to honor their late captain and friend by doing two things Richard loved: playing softball and helping others.

At 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, the Underdogs, which were founded by Richard, will play a memorial softball game at Cantiague Park (Field B) to benefit the American Cancer Society. The Underdogs will take on “Ricky’s G’s,” a team made up of Richard’s close friends. There will be raffles sold at the event with all the proceeds going to benefit the American Cancer Society.

In the event of rain, the game will be held Saturday, Aug. 29 – same time and place.

“Richard Greene was the type of guy who would do anything to help others and we hope to do the same,“ said Yvonne Kieniksman.

“It is very exciting to know that we can honor Ricky while also doing something about a horrible condition like cancer that has affected every one’s life in one way or another,” said Eric Smith. “Just based on how many people knew and loved Ricky, we are sure this event will be a success.
