Sign Language Courses
Hofstra University Continuing Education offers a comprehensive Deaf Studies Certificate Program composed of a sequence of noncredit courses that lead to a proficiency in American Sign Language and Deaf culture. Sloan Wainwright Concert
Sloan Wainwright will perform at Garden Stage at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 223 Stewart Ave. (corner of Nassau Blvd.) at 8 p.m. Sloan Wainwright comes from a long line of amazingly gifted singer/songwriters. Her family tree (brother Loudon, nephew Rufus, nieces Martha and Lucy) reads like a who’s who of contemporary popular music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but also her smoky, deep voiced rendition of songs. Her musical style melds the best of pop, folk, jazz and blues to create a soulful hybrid. With six original CD releases to her credit, Sloan continues to write, sing and perform with a depth that makes the heart ache with recognition and a passion that calls it to rise above. To maintain her own sense of creative diversity, Sloan has written numerous musical compositions for theater and dance and teaches at many of the best-known master songwriter series and workshops. Freeport H.S. Class of 1959 50th Reunion
Member of the Freeport High School Class of 1959 have planned a gala weekend to celebrate their 50-year reunion from Sept.11 to 13. Begins Friday night with a meeting at E.B. Elliot’s on the Nautical Mile to renew old acquaintances. Saturday will find the group at Jones Beach Field 6 or at Museum Row riding Nunley’s Carousel once more, in the bleachers at the Freeport vs. Oceanside football game or just riding around the village visiting old haunts. At 7 p.m. converge at the Freeport Yacht Club for dinner and enjoyment of music of the ‘50s. Before starting home on Sunday, groups will meet at local diners for farewells over brunch. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. Anyone who has experienced a loved one suffering from addiction knows all too well that it affects more people than just the addicted; everyone close to a person addicted to drugs or alcohol feels the effects. Alzheimer’s Day Program
Herricks Alzheimer’s Day Program “Our Space.” This social day program serves seniors with early to moderate dementia and offers them a chance to engage in social and recreational activities including music, art and exercise in a safe, supervised environment.
