With the safety of the students and community in mind, Farmingdale High School has implemented a new traffic pattern for the main parking lot, increasing student safety both inside and outside the school building. With the help of the Farmingdale Board of Education, Assistant Superintendent for Business Paul Defendini, Principal Glen Zakian and Administrative Intern Thomas DePaola, the high school will begin the school year on a safer note.
“The Farmingdale School District continues to put the safety and welfare of the students as its highest priority,” said Defendini. “These adjustments are intended to help simplify morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups making everything more efficient, and most importantly making it safer for the students, staff and community.”
The school has carried out several changes, including moving the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up to the pool parking lot off Woodward Parkway. There will also no longer be two-way traffic when the students enter or leave the school. In addition, buses will be rerouted to the rear parking lot near the athletic fields.
Parking lot assignments have also been changed, with student parking now being located in the pool-parking lot off Woodward Parkway, and the staff parking lot being moved to the lot by the tennis courts in the rear of the school.
“The district has taken measures to make these changes clear by installing barriers, realigning curbs and repaving and relining the parking lots,” said Zakian. “We are reminding parents and students about these changes so that the new traffic pattern will be understood and will run smoothly on the first day of school. We are excited to get the 2009/10 school year under way, and believe that the new traffic changes will be a wonderful and safe addition to the high school.”
Police officers will be present both in the beginning and end of the school day to ensure a smooth transition to these new traffic patterns. Students, parents and staff will be introduced to the new traffic patterns and parking changes when school begins in the fall.
