Over 60…And Getting Younger: September 11, 2009

The Enemies List

The United States of America has more than its share of detractors. They claim that our capitalistic form of government benefits only the rich. They state that we are mercenary, money-oriented, and only the rich get true justice. They also claim that we stick our collective noses into the world’s business.

Let us examine these rash statements.

On Dec. 7, 1941, our naval base at Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japanese planes. The USS Arizona was sunk with over 100 sailors still on board. We declared war on Japan. Was that unreasonable?

Two weeks later, Germany, under Adolph Hitler, declared war on the U.S.A. They had aligned with the Japanese to form the Axis Powers, and their collective aim was to capture and destroy our democratic government. Hitler’s atrocities became evident to the world and the “good old U.S.A.” was called upon to stop this madman. We lost over 450,000 men but we defeated both the militaristic Japanese and the bloodthirsty Germans. No other country could accomplish this feat!

After World War II our ally the Russians, under Stalin, turned on us. They sponsored the Koreans north of the 38th parallel to invade the south. If we had not intervened, South Korea would be destitute and under the heel of Communist tyrant Kim Jong Il. We lost 50,000 men during the Korean War. Should we be blamed or praised to the skies?

Communism is an international movement. They wish to dominate the world and establish a system of government where capitalism is destroyed and the state controls everything. All freedoms are abolished and only the selected leaders chosen by Joseph Stalin rule. This worked in Russia from 1917 until 1989 when the Berlin Wall was shattered by constantly pressuring the Communists to give their people freedom.

Our form of government, which was formed in 1789 by a band of former English subjects, is based on a Constitution that has a Bill of Rights and can be changed by amendments voted on by the electorate. Everyone, even the wealthy, is guided by our laws and court system.

Currently, we are fighting against a small group of Islamic militants. On September 11, 2001, they attacked the city of New York’s World Trade Center towers, killing close to 3,000 people. We are fighting the Taliban and Al Qaeda in the mountains of Iraq and Afghanistan. These terrorists wish to infiltrate and destroy peaceful governments and turn them into religious states. We aim to stop them!

The U.S.A. is a force for good in the world. This is not debatable. The globe would be a sadder and less free place if not for the “Good Old U.S. of A.”

God Bless America.
