The Hicksville Historical Society will welcome members of the Long Island Historical Miniature Collectors Society, a group of artists and modelers from the New York City and Long Island vicinity devoted to creating, painting, collecting, studying and displaying miniature figures, to its meeting. Children’s Books Featured at Westbury Friends Fair
The Westbury Friends Fair on Post Ave. at Jericho Tpke. has been a local tradition for 56 years, this year featuring new and gently-used children’s books. Also for sale: a wide range of books for adults, antiques and attic treasures, household items, as well as home-baked goods, flowering plants and fresh farm produce. Games are provided to keep children occupied while adults browse. Lunch is available and the LI Traditional Music group will provide lively music on the patio. Our Heroes Night Out Fundraiser for Homeless Vets
From 3 to 7 p.m. Center Lane Pizza and MisMatch and YooHoo the clowns will be hosting a fund raiser at the Center Lane Pizza, Levittown. Twenty percent of the profits will go towards Our Heroes Night Out – a program that provides events for the homeless veterans. There will be lots of fun entertainment for the family. •Sept. 19 through Oct. 31: Family Fun. There will be tractor-drawn hayrides and roasted corn on the weekends, a barnyard of farm animals, homemade fudge, candied and fudge apples, fresh-baked pies, New York State apples and thousands of pumpkins, including the Seventh Annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off, to be held on Oct. 4 at noon. The popular Otto the Ghost, appearing in person and in the free animated story Otto’s Green Halloween, in which the little ghost learns simple ways to help the earth through recycling and reusing. Hicks asks visitors to bring a nonperishable food item. All the food collected will be donated to Long Island Cares to benefit hungry people on Long Island.
•Oct. 3: It’s Bulb Planting Time. After the drabness of winter our gardens cry out for brightness. Plant bulbs now and your spring garden will be alive with color. Vinnie Drzewucki, CNLP, shows how to plant spring flower bulbs such as tulips daffodils, crocus and more. 2 p.m.
