Hannon: We Hope For The Best, But We Need to Be Prepared
Following the 8th anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attacks, Senator Kemp Hannon encourages Long Islanders to review important terrorism safety precautions.
“We hope for the best, but we need to be prepared for the worst,” Senator Hannon said. “The grievous September 11th attacks have demonstrated the crucial importance of planning ahead for disasters and being informed.”
Senator Hannon advises all citizens to go through the following terrorism precaution checklist as outlined by the American Red Cross:
Be aware of your surroundings. Move or leave if you feel uncomfortable or if something does not seem right. Be prepared to evacuate or to take shelter if officials instruct you to do so. Make a family disaster plan and keep it up to date. Assemble and maintain a disaster supplies kit. Learn and practice evacuation and sheltering procedures and prepare for any special protective measures included in your plan.
Take precautions when traveling: Be aware of conspicuous or unusual behavior. Do not accept packages from strangers. Do not leave luggage unattended. Promptly report unusual behavior, suspicious or unattended packages, and strange devices to the police or security personnel.
