Tomorrow’s Hope Walk/Bike-A-Thon
The Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation will be conducting its 4th annual “Laps for Learning” walk/bike-a-thon that raises money for the Children’s Scholarship Fund. Laps-for-Learning is a family-fun event held at Cedar Creek County Park, Seaford. The walk/bike-a-thon consists of a 1-mile walk, 2-mile ride and a 4-mile ride. All participants will receive a delicious lunch generously donated by the New York State Councils of the Knights of Columbus. In addition, each participant will receive a free T-shirt to commemorate the event. Raffle chances, face painting, balloons, live DJ music and many more fun activities. All riders/walkers who raise $200 or more in pledges will be entered into a special drawing to win a laptop computer. $10 registration fee per participant. On site registration $20. 24th Annual International Coastal Cleanup
In conjunction with the American Littoral Society will be held at Garvies Point Museum and Preserve, 50 Barry Dr., Glen Cove, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join thousands of volunteers just like you from Argentina to Vietnam who will be picking up trash from miles of beaches all over the world during the cleanup. Information about the trash collected goes to scientists at the Ocean Conservancy to determine what is polluting our water so that we can help stop it. Come for an hour, two hours, the full three hours. Wear old clothes, sneakers or boots (no sandals or flipflops). Bring water, insect repellent, sunscreen and work gloves, if you have them. NC’s Assessor’s Tax Exemption Office
The Nassau County Assessor’s Office is coming to help all file for property tax exemptions at the East Meadow Public Library. They will have the forms, the computers and the staff to make getting an exemption as easy as possible. 2 to 4 p.m. and a second program from 6 to 8 p.m. Bring a copy of your 2008 tax forms. Walk to Remember
In recognition of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, which aims to increase the community’s understanding of the grief associated with the loss of an unborn or newborn child, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Perinatal Bereavement Team will host the Sixth Annual Walk to Remember at 9 a.m. at Field 5 of Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. This event enables parents, relatives and friends who have lost a child due to pregnancy complications, stillbirth, early infant loss or fetal abnormalities to walk in remembrance of their loved one. The day includes a light breakfast, a candlelight memorial service and the opportunity for parents to create a personal memory page for inclusion in Winthrop’s Memory Scrapbook. A donation of $15 per person is requested; children under 12 years of age may participate for free. The funds raised will support the work of Winthrop’s Perinatal Bereavement Team. Our Heroes Night Out Fundraiser for Homeless Vets
From 3 to 7 p.m. Center Lane Pizza and MisMatch and YooHoo the clowns will be hosting a fund raiser at the Center Lane Pizza, Levittown. Twenty percent of the profits will go towards Our Heroes Night Out – a program that provides events for the homeless veterans. There will be lots of fun entertainment for the family. Pet Blessing

Hicksville UMC Off-Broadway Holding Auditions
Hicksville United Methodist Church Off-Broadway will hold auditions for its fourth annual production, Into the Woods, on Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. and Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Callbacks, if necessary, will be on Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. All roles are open. Black and White Conversion
The Photoshop manual states that there are over a dozen ways to convert a digital image to black and white and each monthly magazine seems to have an article about a new (and usually more complicated) way. This show tries to simplify black and white conversion by way of a slide show presentation followed by a live Photoshop demonstration.
