Farmingdale High School was once again named a Top Ten Award Winner in the Nassau County Sportsmanship Award for the 2008/09 school year. In the tenth year of the award, this is the second time (2006/07) that Farmingdale was honored.
“We are so happy to be one of the schools to win this prestigious award,” said Farmingdale Athletic Director Jeanne Berkoski. “Participation in athletics is more than just performance in sport, it is teaching student-athletes life lessons on and off the field. We are so proud of our coaches and student-athletes, for not only their athletic success, but also their ability to promote good sportsmanship.”
The award is decided by high schools across the county accumulating “sportsmanship points” recorded by the Nassau County Sportsmanship Award Committee to determine the schools with the best overall approach to good sportsmanship in all varsity sports throughout the year. Sportsmanship points are generated from information received from all officials/umpire organizations and sports coordinators. In June each school’s points are added together and then divided by the number of varsity sports the school participates in during the entire school year to establish the school’s overall sportsmanship grade point average.
