Coats For Kids has begun in our area. This program, where new and gently used coats are donated for those in need (children and adults) and will then be cleaned at local cleaners, runs through January 2010.
A collection bin will be at Williston Park village hall, 494 Willis Avenue, Williston Park, as well as Senator Craig Johnson’s office at 151 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park. Please look through your closets and help those in need.
The next village board meeting will be on Oct. 19 at 8 p.m.. All residents are invited to attend.
The Boy Scouts will be holding their annual Flea Market on Oct. 17 at the Gazebo parking lot on Hillside Avenue and Liberty.
The Williston Park Fire Department will be hosting an Open House at the Fire House on Oct. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. All are invited to attend for a tour and fire safety and prevention tips.
The Halloween Ragamuffin Parade will be held on Oct. 31 at 6:15 p.m. meeting time at The American Legion Hall on Willis Avenue.
All are invited in costume to march through town, it will be the Broad Street route this year to finish at village hall with treats for all participants, compliments of The Kiwanis Club of County Seat. The parade steps off at 6:30 p.m.
The Historical Committee of Williston Park is again sponsoring their annual essay contest “Village Official for a Day.”
The theme this year will be “What does Williston Park have to offer me?” The contest is open to all 4th grade students who are residents of the Village of Williston Park. Local schools will be asked to participate and if your school does not, you may submit your own essay to village hall before Oct. 30.
Monday, Oct. 12 is Columbus Day. It is a holiday for the village. There will be no garbage collection on Oct. 12 and the collection schedule is adjusted for the week. Mon/Thurs pick up becomes Tues/Thurs and Tues/Fri pick up will be done on Wed/Fri for this week. There will be no heavy trash the week of Oct. 12. Please refer to your holiday garbage schedule or look on our website for more information.
Please pay attention to street signs, stop signs and lights. The weather remains nice and there are a lot of people walking around town. Speeding causes accidents, and I urge all residents to be cautious when driving.
DPW has firewood available free to residents. Please call village hall to inquire about picking up.
