TOPSOCCER
Once again the soccer gods were watching over the NHP TOPSoccer fields and, although there were doom and gloom predictions of another bible-like flood, not a drop fell on us. A super turnout saw some outstanding competition, as we prepared for our upcoming tournament in 2 weeks. The junior match was a nip-and-tuck battle with the Red Tigers edging out the Blue Lions by one goal. Tristan Yang, Josh Hom and Emily Bosco (2 goals) accounted for the Red Tigers scoring. The Blue Lions bounced back with goals by Sammy Duggan, Arta (one of our new players) and Harry Owens. The seniors were in top form as they primed for the tournament by playing against the coaches. There was little doubt in this one as Robert Vittiglio shutout the coaches with a superb effort in goal. Scoring by Matt Saraiva and David Glass was all the offense the players needed. Andrea Matteo had an excellent game with great positioning and firing off a ton of shots on a weary goalie. International Division Boys U9
Cosmos 4 vs. Arsenal 1
Despite heavy pressure from the Arsenal team, Kuna Suri was spectacular in goal making several outstanding saves for the Cosmos. Dennis Stylianou opened the scoring with a strong kick to give the Cosmos a 1-0 lead. Kunal Sheth played terrific, stopping several Arsenal rushes while making numerous skilled passes to give the Cosmos opportunities to score. Although Nick Duras played for only the first half, that was enough time to extend the lead to 2-0. Kunal Sheth scored the third goal and Thomas Donnelly finished the scoring with the only goal of the second half. Outstanding in defense, Cosmos’ Patrick Devine pushed the ball up to the offense throughout the game. Matthew Chung was solid all around as well. Sean Kerwin, Alex Lopes, Tommy Fitzpatrick, and Nikhil Nair all played good ball for the Cosmos. Despite the absence of defender Daniel Hanna who is out a few weeks with a fractured wrist, the Cosmos showed strong effort throughout the game. For the Arsenal team, Tommy Marchellos scored the lone goal in the first half and played very well in goal during the second half. Taso Diacovasilis played an excellent game for Arsenal. Jonathan Fusaro was also solid all around. Sal Angelaras and Alex Garabedian played well on defense for Arsenal.

NHP Lady Pumas-6 HBC-2
After a slow start, the NHP Lady Pumas exploded on Sunday with a breakout game against a tough HBC team – providing a dose of revenge following a 3-1 loss earlier this season. The girls really came alive in the 2d half of this game – scoring 5 goals in all. The Puma attack was led by Kira Crehan, who got us started, Logan W, Kaitlyn Krems (2 goals), Izzy Glennon, and Theodora Papanonio – who each netted a goal. The defense was led by Casey Sanders, Isabel Ugolilni, and Lauren W. In goal was Izzy G and Sophia Leeds – who each played superb, grabbed everything they should have gotten and punted the ball extremely well. The girls did very good job distributing the ball and passing in this game.
East Meadow Lightning 1 NHP Roaring Tigers-1
With the threat of rain in the forecast the skies held up and the Roaring Tigers took on the undefeated Lightning of East Meadow. The Lightning seem to be fast and furious with some strong charges to the Tigers goal but was met by a greatly improving Silvana Seidita in goal who made several good saves. Equally as impressive between the pipes was Marisa Menist who completed her day with several saves and shut-out the Lightning from scoring. The Defense was on super charge from the start of the game led by Camryn Dluginski, Ally Petricca, Bethany Ambrosio, and Lauren Perlman who stepped up her game making some great stops and big clearing kicks to start the offense some fast break runs. With the Tigers over aggressive defense trying to battle for possession, the Lightning got past center defense and was just able to pop a fly ball over our goalie’s head for an opening goal of the game. The Roaring Tigers fought back every second of there possession that was led by Siohban McMullan, Dylan Sanders, Jordyn Siegel, and Olivia Lugo. The Tigers pressed hard up to the the 25 minute of the first half when a foul called on East Meadow. Up to take the free kick, Olivia Lugo, just outside the 18 yard box, slammed it passed the wall of girls, left side of the East Meadow goalie to find the far post and tie the game at 1-1 to end the first half. The second half was a back and forth battle of possession of the ball, with only a breathe away and the makings of a fast break, Olivia, on her horse, was stopped midway into East Meadow territory as time ended the contest in a tie. The Roaring Tigers missed the help of Shayna Zeitlin, and Deirdre Lynch.
