The little Vikings played big Sunday, led by Chloe Grant’s two fantastic, darting runs, both of which set up TD’s. Gabrielle Gomez played another inspired game, with a gazelle-like TD off a quick slant pass from Gianna Morales, who played a heady game in her first career start at QB. Gianna was also huge on defense, with key flag pulls to stall a couple of Patriots’ drives. The other half of the Wonder Twins, Rebecca Morales, ate up tough yards with her determined runs. James Michels and Joseph Marino also played great games: James outran every opposing player on his dash to pay dirt while Joseph zigzagged his way through the defense to score on a long run!
Pee Wee-3
The Steelers started with a long TD run by Alex Hajko. Alex would add another TD in the second half. Brian Hayden caught a pass from Alex Ventura and took it the distance for a TD with Michael Molloy running it in for the 2-point conversion. Matt Valero scored on a long TD run and Matt Nocerino took the hand off into the end zone for two points. Jake Dominicci knocked down a pass and Jared Aleman rushed the QB to key the Steelers defense and hold off a hard charging Broncos team.
Pee Wee-4
The Giants had another impressive win Sunday. Anthony Tedesco, Thomas Marcotte, and Daniel Keller combine for 20 points. Marc Conigliaro has been the answer to the Giants’ extra point problems. Marc converted two of three extra points. Frank Bondietti and Joseph DeFlorio led the Giants’ defense in defeating the Vikings.
For the Vikings, Christopher Vallone played a heady game at QB while contributing a nice reception on offense and some big flag pulls on defense. Danny Miller sprinted to paydirt on a beautiful run after snaring a pass and Stephen Pantano flew all over the field on both sides of the ball, making several big flag pulls on “D” while running circles around the Giants on “O”. Giovanni Calibar and James Palagonia contributed some nifty runs while Luke Morales, Joshua DeSousa, Nicholas Marra and Stephen Ramos made nice contributions on defense.
The Steelers broke a two game losing streak with a come-from-behind win on Sunday. The Redskins led 20-12 at halftime, but the Steelers scored three unanswered touchdowns while its defense proceeded to shut down the Redskins in the second half. The Steelers had a balanced attack, with four players scoring (Kenny Amato, Matt Tolkach, and Gio Maiorano each scoring once, and William Hund scoring twice). The Steel Curtain defense was led by Liam McIntyre, Willie Wenzel and Greg Monteloene.
The fourth grade Jets improved to 4-0 with an impressive 32-6 victory over the Browns. It was an all around effort as four players (Anthony Speciale, Joe Kosinski, Gergory Padaliano and Mark Bakich) scored touchdowns. Kevin McMahon led the team on offense as the quarterback. Matthew Calderone Chris Ossenfort both had big receptions. Antonio “Junior” Smikle lead the team on defense with 2 interceptions.
Junior Varsity-5
The “Orange Crush” Browns squared off against the Jets and both teams came out scoring. Tyler Sullivan had a great TD run on a short reception from Nick Cappellino, also Nick Pantorno had a great TD run on a pass from Matt McCarthy. The team welcomed back their premier runningback Michael Simmons and Michael greeted the Jets with run after run after run racking up big yardage. The “Orange Crush” sack unit of Matt LaGois, Lucas Cecchetti, Michael Giovannello kept pressure on the Jets QB all day. Nick Cappellino at the end of the game found Tyler Sullivan in the back of the end zone with the perfect bullet for the last TD of the game. The Browns game ball was presented to Michael Simmons for an outstanding game. Coach Al and Coach Tyrone as always are very proud of the team’s effort.
The Jet’s offense led by Connor Hess, Will Hroch, Sean McCann, Connor McCann and Ryan Marcis were so good they put up 18 points in the first half. The defense with Tom Catalano, Luke Gruener, Anthony Pizarelli, Sean, Connor and Will made the Browns earn every point they scored. The coach’s knew they played their hearts out. The Browns came out on top, but it was a battle all day! Coach Joe is very proud of the team and appreciates the effort in practice and the execution on Sunday. Adam Best and Jesse Nicolich were missed!
The Patriots played an awesome game against the Broncos. Matt Ragno threw 5 TD passes to Nicholas Carbone and Tyler Timmons. Great defensive play by Chris Maddalone, Randy Stefane, and John Melfa kept the Broncos on their heels the whole game. Coaches Joe and Nick are very proud of the team effort!
The Giants and Vikings locked up in a defensive struggle this week. Each team held the others offense in check coming up with big plays to stop scoring chances. The game was finally decided on the last play as Tom Donovan picked off a Vikings pass and returned it for the only points in a 6 – 0 Giants victory.
Varsity-7
The Giants outlasted a tough and talented Steeler team this week. Every member of the Giants squad made big plays on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Matt MacKenzie led the way with 2TDs while Chris Moloney, Vinny Rubino and Mike Lynch all chipped in with TDs and Brain Christmann added some PATs. Paul DeSimone had some big first down runs and applied pressure to the Steelers passing attack all game.
Varsity-9
The Redskins beat the Steelers, 31–8. Quarterbacks Nick Estaquio and Eric Wolfert each threw 2 TD passes to receivers Chris Griesche, James Haraden, Jake Dickinson and Dominick Mayo. The defense dominated the field with 3 turnovers. Patrick Lively’s rushing kept pressure on the QB and blocked 2 passes. An interception was retuned for a touchdown by Eric Wolfert. A diving interception by Chris Griesche and another by Jake Dickerson set up two scoring drives.
The Jets beat the Browns 34-12 with a barrage of big plays from the offense. QB Denis Donovan went deep to find Vincent Mavaro and Paul Cohen for a pair of highlight reel TD’s. Brian Mazza also grabbed a pair of TD passes, but it was Nathan Kirchiem who had the catch of the day on a two-point conversion. Robert Bianco and Billy Pickett anchored the defense.
