John Lewis Childs School Harvest Fair
The John Lewis Childs School PTA will hold its 23rd annual harvest fair from noon to 4 p.m. on the school grounds, Elizabeth St. The fair will feature music, pizza, hot dogs and ice cream. Youngsters will enjoy decorating a pumpkin, a train ride, inflatable bounce castle, sand art, spin art, games, and if you dare, take a stroll through the “Spook Walk.” Admission is free, so come on over and shop for your beautiful fall flowers. The fair will be held rain or shine.

Fall Holiday Vendor Fair
The Rosary Altar Society of Our Lady of Victory Church is holding its fall holiday vendor fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Memorial Hall at Our Lady of Victory School, 2 Bellmore St. The fair will feature vendors of unique jewelry, baby sweaters, creative crafts, Irish imports, handmade rots and many more items. Hair Cutting Event in Stewart Manor
The Junior Women’s Club of Bellerose and Salone Di Capelli in Stewart Manor will host the second Pantene Beautiful Lengths hair-cutting event. People of all ages are invited to grow, cut and donate 8 inches or more of their hair to make wigs for women who lave lost their hair due to cancer treatment. Pantene and the Entertainment Industry Foundation have partnered with HairUWear to create this first-of-its kind campaign that encourages people to donate their healthy hair to make high quality, hand tied, real hair wigs. Once the donations are received and free wigs are made they are distributed through the American Cancer Society’s extensive network of wig banks across the country. Craft Fair/Flea Market
St. Elisabeth’s Church, 6 Harvard St. (off Tulip Ave.) will hold its semi-annual Craft Fair/Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fifty vendors from all over Long Island will present their wares – hand-made articles, crafts, white elephants, books, jewelry, new clothes, etc. Vendors from Mary Kay, Tupperware, Avon, Tastefully Simple and Pampered Chef will also be present. Food will also be served.
STAC Flea Market
Sewanhaka High School’s Students and Teachers Against Cancer (STAC) flea market – originally scheduled for Oct. 3 – was postponed until today from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in front of the Sewanhaka High School building. All proceeds will benefit the Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) Foundation in memory of Lisa Zahler.
Christmas Boutique

Flu Shots to Be Administered
This year’s flu shots will be administered from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Floral Park Recreation Center. Registration is required. As in prior years, the program will be administered by the L.I.J. Safe Halloween Party for Kids
The American Red Cross believes that the trick to having a fun Halloween is to knowing how to remain safe. To help children learn about safety, the Nassau Red Cross will open its doors for a Halloween Safety Party. Children, ages 6 to 11, are invited to participate in the event which will include carnival style games and a haunted house. They will learn what to do if a friend is choking; what to do if approached by a stranger; and other ways to remain safe while trick or treating. Children are encouraged to wear costumes; however, they are to be non-violent with no weapons, nor full-face masks. Admission is $5 per child and attendees must register in advance. JLC School Kick-Off Reflections Program
The John Lewis Childs School PTA will officially kick-off the 2009-10 National PTA Reflections Program at the school. The theme for this year is “Beauty is…” The deadline for entries is Nov. 4. The National PTA Reflections Program is a national arts recognition and achievement program open to students in K through grade 6 in the areas of literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts, dance choreography and film production. The works of art will be judged by professionals in the respective arts areas and selected works will be advanced to the Nassau Regional PTA. From that point, selected works will advance to the state or national levels for judging.

•Look Good…Feel Better, sponsored by LIJ Medical Center in association with the National Cosmetology Association, the Toiletry Fragrance Association and the American Cancer Society. The program reaches out to women with cancer and teaches them how to best apply makeup and wear their hair while undergoing cancer treatment. •Family Promise of NC. Are you concerned about helping homeless families in our local communities?
