Haunted House for Cancer Research
The 7th Annual Szuba Family Haunted House for Cancer Research will take place on Oct. 24 and 25 from 3 to 9 p.m. at 92 Meadow St., Garden City. Rain or shine. The event is held each year and it is a wonderful way for families and kids of all ages to enjoy some Halloween fun and take part in raising money for a good cause. For a $5 admission fee you can be escorted through a haunted mansion by a ghoul or a friendly witch (student volunteers), walk through a haunted graveyard and enjoy some delicious Halloween bake sale goods. All proceeds benefit the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research and the MIRACLE Foundation (donation checks are welcomed and are tax deductible). Craft Fair
Molloy College Senior Class will sponsor a craft fair in the Anselma Room, Kellenberg Hall. American Chamber Ensemble
Hofstra University Museum presents Feel the Beat, Voices Sweet, Watch Their Feet!, featuring The American Chamber Ensemble at 3 p.m. at Rochelle and Irwin A. The program is presented in conjunction with the current exhibition America’s Irreplaceable Dance Treasures: The First 100, and features selections from American composers and includes a musical composition written specifically for this occasion by Hofstra Professor Emeritus of Music Herbert Deutsch. Adelphi University is hosting an exhibition featuring drawings and paintings by Justin Canha, from Oct. 25 to Oct. 30 in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Gallery, 1 South Ave. Justin, 19, is an accomplished artist and autistic. This exhibit is part of the university’s Disabilities Awareness Week celebrations. Justin’s story is an example of triumph of the spirit, mind and body. Justin’s work is remarkable in both its depth and diversity ranging from charcoal, watercolor and oil portraits of people and animals to comics and cartoon animation. A free reception will be held on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.

Celebration of Breast Cancer Survivors
Breast cancer survivors, family and friends will come together for the 16th annual Breast Cancer Celebration of Survivorship of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. The free event, held at Adelphi’s University Center Ballroom. begins at 6:15 p.m. with a light supper; the program starts at 7 p.m. Five breast cancer survivors will speak about their personal experiences with the disease and what sustained them and helped them to move forward. The Voysey Inheritance
Presented by the Nassau Community College Department of Theatre and Dance. The Voysey Inheritance is a play by Harley Granville-Barker, adapted by David Mamet. Performances Oct. 29 through Nov. 1 and Nov. 4 through Nov. 8 at Nassau Community College. The Voysey family has been cheating its clients. Edward, a junior partner who plans to take over the company from his aging father, is horrified when he discovers the embezzlement that has been keeping his relatives in the lap of luxury. But nobody wants Edward to dismantle the firm’s criminal legacy. As the risk of exposure looms larger, Edward comes to fully understand the consequences of his “inheritance.” Tickets are $9 adults; $7 seniors 55 and over. Author Josh Swiller to Speak
Josh Swiller, author of the Adelphi University’s First Year Reading Program choice, The Unheard: A Memoir of Deafness and Africa, details his transformative two-year experience volunteering for the Peace Corps. Safe Halloween Party for Kids
The American Red Cross believes that the trick to having a fun Halloween is to knowing how to remain safe. To help children learn about safety, the Nassau Red Cross will open its doors for a Halloween Safety Party. Children, ages 6 to 11, are invited to participate in the event which will include carnival style games and a haunted house. They will learn what to do if a friend is choking; what to do if approached by a stranger; and other ways to remain safe while trick or treating. Children are encouraged to wear costumes; however, they are to be non-violent with no weapons, nor full-face masks. Admission is $5 per child and attendees must register in advance. Halloween Bash Benefit

St, Joseph School, 450 Franklin Ave., which is devoted to integrating the teachings of the Catholic faith within a creative and stimulating learning environment, is hosting an Open House Guided Tour from 9:30 to 11 a.m., for Nursery, Pre-K and Kindergarten. Parents will be able to see how St. Joseph School gives young children an early advantage for life by providing a uniquely well-rounded education in a nurturing, small-group setting. Post Election Fair
The auxiliary of the Garden City Community Church, Stewart Ave., is moving its annual Fair to Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the beginning of a new tradition which will allow more people to shop and volunteer. St. Anne’s Church Fall Coat Drive
St. Anne’s Church, 35 Dartmouth St., is currently holding its annual fall coat drive through Oct. 25. Every year, hundreds of men, women and children in Nassau County live through the cold winter season without a warm coat. There are more struggling families this year because of the current economic downturn. You can help by dropping off new or gently used clean coats, jackets or sweaters. The collection closets are open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enter through the main church doors, go to the top of the stairs and the closets are on the left. Bag all donations and label as: men, women or children. Individual donations and collection efforts at your office, school or community organization are encouraged.
