Holy Cross junior tennis player Matt Wierzel of Garden City was named Patriot League Male Tennis Player of the Month for September. It is the first time in program history that a Crusader men’s tennis player has been so honored by the Patriot League.
So far this season, Wierzel has accumulated a 15-1 singles record, won the individual championships at the Stonehill and Wheaton Invitationals and advanced to the championship match of the Connecticut Invitational, the farthest any Holy Cross tennis player has reached in that tournament ever. Last year, he became the first in program history to earn All-Patriot League honors when he was named to the second team.
